I'm really excited right now. I've bought myself a new computer!

On Monday, I finally got my monitor back, the one that had 'blown up' on me.  After using my friend's monitor for so long - which was a real good one - I'd become used to quality, and my monitor isn't a quality item. I decided to buy myself another monitor, and expected to pay around $300 - $400 for a 15-inch monitor. Today I decided to not only get a monitor, but also to upgrade my RAM from 64 Mb to 128 Mb.

After doing a bit of phoning around, I discovered that my computer needs more than its' RAM upgraded... In order to upgrade the RAM I'd need to buy a new motherboard and CPU chip, so I was looking at around $900 total. This seemed pretty crazy to me, so I made a big decision.

I've bought myself an entire new computer system. Details are:

INTEL Celeron 333 MHz CPU
128 Mb RAM
3.2 Gb HDD
17" monitor
32-bit sound card
120 watt speakers
36 speed CD ROM
8 Mb 3D video card

All this for the paltry price of $1830. Woohoo! I dropped a few things off this package they had. I didn't need the 56K modem, the colour printer, the scanner, the 2 months free internet access, the technical support, or any of the software they were including. This dropped the price of the package from $1999 down to $1580. I then upgraded the 15" monitor that came with the package to a 17" for an extra $250. I'm pretty happy with that.

It's being delivered this coming Friday - it's almost like christmas! "Only two sleeps to go!"

I started working at ORAC today with Scot, covering for his receptionist. It was a very boring day. An over-filled training course was being held, and so more computers and monitors were needed than what were originally in the training room.  Scot decided to put the reception's monitor into the training room, and put at reception a shitty monitor from out the back. When I got to work this morning, I didn't know what the story was, and so when I sat in front of this monitor that was at a resolution size of 800x600, I immediately tried to change it up to 1024x768.

What I didn't know was that Scot spent three hours last night getting that shitty monitor to the resolution of 800x600. It was so shitty that it wouldn't accept resolution changes, and he had to change the resolution using another monitor, and then swapping it to the shitty monitor. When I tried changing it, it went from 800x600 down to 640x480 with only 16 colours. There weren't any other monitors to adjust it with, so we decided to wait until after the training course finished before we fixed it all.

However, the course didn't finish until 5pm, which is when I came home. So I'm hoping that Scot will fix it up tonight. There's no way anything can be done effectively with the internet at only 640x480 pixels and 16 colours!!! So I didn't do anything all day, apart from answering phones.

That's why it was boring.

And then I return home to my own shitty monitor, where the display is blurred and shakes just enough to be soooo irritating that I'm really going to have a hard time waiting until Friday!!

It's time to start screaming.

When you are inspired by some great purpose,
some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds;
Your mind transcends limitations,
your consciousness expands in every direction,
and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world.
Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive,
and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far
than you ever dreamed yourself to be.
